AfterImage

An open eye captures a scene, when the eye lids are shut an image remains, but only within the mind: an afterimage has been formed. This project explores how a new intervention can respond to the concept of the afterimage in relation to the trinity square car park that once stood on the site. The programme is for a cyclotel with retail units and leisure facilities that are open to Gateshead as well as the guests. The brief challenges the designer to address the large site at the centre of the town and explore the practical requirements of organising an urban fabric around the bike. The open brief allows for a unique approach but a functional building and landscape must emerge from the final scheme.
