In response to client aspirations of social change, innovation and unexpected collaborations, this project uses games and their powers as social activators to inform its design. Initially set the task of creating an innovative incubator space for social change, under the title 'Playing with Sustainability' games are used as a catalyst to inspire and educate children on issues relating to sustainability.
Following through to the new Finnish Institute building, located on the banks of the river Tyne, the concept of games are used to form an exciting, creative environment infusing work and play and encouraging social interactions.The design includes a range of flexible multi-purpose spaces to accommodate the various events of the Finnish Institute as well as integrating itself into its surroundings proposing a new pedestrian bridge across the Tyne to engage users and offer a strong platform for the institute.
