Afterimage

Our current design project is situated within the site of the recently demolished Trinity Square Car Park and shopping centre in Gateshead. The demolished building was of iconic status within the region and the project brief requires an appreciation of the demolished building as both an icon and an eyesore and the proposal of a new hotel for cyclists. My own design explores the afterimage of the Trinity Square car park as a brutalist entity that restricted the user in both a kinetic and subliminal sense. The proposal aims to take the original volumetric qualities of the car park and create a structure that does not restrict the user but encourages free motion across the site and extroverts its influences toward the Gateshead community.
